Geek Therapy
What is Geek Therapy?
Geek Therapy involves the incorporation of superhero characters and other elements from geek culture into evidence based therapy practice. These often include comics, TV shows, movies, games (board games, video games, role playing games), and other fandoms such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Stranger Things..
Why Geek Therapy?
Oftentimes, children, adolescents, and even adults find it difficult to identify their emotions and/or personal struggles, yet can easily connect with fictional characters whose stories may resonate with them. By using Geek Therapy, clients can learn how to identify their own issues and process their experiences in a safe and comfortable way, and using concepts and themes that they are familiar with.
Did You Create This Therapy?
NOPE! Geek Therapy was coined by Josué Cardona in 2011. To learn more about Geek Therapy and its origin story, check out https://geektherapy.org
